Before 1959 Qatar was using the indian rupees. Then the Reserve Bank of India issued Persian Gulf Rupee, and Qatar refused from it in 1966 in favour of Saudi riyal as a temporary tender. In 1968 there was introduced the Dubai and Qatar riyal. After Dubai joined the UAE, Qatar issues it's own riyal. 1 riyal equals 100 dirhams.
