French franc was introduced in 1799 instead of formerly used livres. In 1865-1926 France was leading in the Latin Monetary Union (between France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Greece). In 1960 the monetary reform gave life to the modern franc, which substituted the old one at 1:100 ratio. In 2002 France joined the euro zone.
